How a person feels about something can have a big affect on their likelihood of success. You can find out a lot about this in Tony Robbins excellent book Awaken The Giant Within.
There is a lesson here for helping your children do their very best with maths and when they learn times tables and to help make them a success in school and in life.
Linking numbers with positive feelings can be hugely beneficial to children and one way to do this is with games.
Children of course love games and linking games to maths really helps their attitude to maths and number. A game involving numbers? What about battleships.
In my experience most children really like this game and of course to play it numbers are involved.
Tell your children this and how great numbers are.
Rather than an effort make the steps to learn times tables fun. For example use fun images and drawings.
Doing this will help produce the right attitude to numbers and maths for your children to learn times tables really well.

Let your children see and play with things that make numbers fun, this will help them like and be comfortable with maths and numbers.
This way a positive attitude to numbers and maths will grow and your children will be best placed to be a success in school.
As a suggestion have you thought about cartoons and pictures.
Young children love these and will more easily be able to understand a maths idea if you can present it to them in this fashion.
What else can help develop a positive state of mind to help your children learn times tables and maths?
For example one person's views I really like are those of Marilyn Curtain-Phillips. In an article she wrote recently she observed how children at school learn by swapping ideas, ask questions and give answers amongst themselves, and say what they feel about what they are learning.
Marilyn says that when communication ability is acquired early this is priceless and has a positive impact on children all the way to adulthood.

What can we learn from children and their communication? This …… communicating and speaking with your children can make all the difference to them and when they learn times tables.
Have you heard the great educational truism – Speak to Learn?
By talking to your children and getting them to talk back in the way that Marilyn referred to, this will help your children develop that positive way of looking and feeling about numbers that they can carry with them all their lives.
This is the way to a successful time at school. Why?
When children can speak about a subject then they have reached the point when they know about that subject. This includes for when they learn times tables, numbers and maths in general – Speak to Learn!
