Fast factoring of multiplication problems can be done by memorizing the times tables or by using some well known tricks.

The easiest multiplication rule to remember is the factors of one, which is that any number multiplied by one remains the same.
9x9=18 and 9+9=18, the same is true for all multiples of two; simply add the number to itself for the same answer.

A rule for three helps check your work, but does not help in the speed of the multiplication.
Every multiplication answer of three will add up to three, six, or nine, if an answer does not add up to one of these numbers, then it is incorrect; for example: 2x3=6 and 3+3=6, or 3x12=36 and 3+6=9.

One and zero are easy multiples to memorize, and five is just as simple.
Five has multiples that are exactly five numbers lower or higher than the next or last factored multiple, for example: 0x5=0, 1x5=5, 2x5=10, and the addition proving this is, 0+5=5, 5+5=10, and 10+5=15.

Even numbers work with the number six for another fun multiplication trick.

When six is multiplied by an even number, the answer will always end with the same number that is multiplying six: 6x2=12, and 6x8=48.

With more than one crafty trick, nine is the next number with memorization techniques for multiplication. In the example, 9x3=10x3-3, it is shown that by first multiplying a number by ten and then subtracting that number from the answer will result in the same answer as multiplying by nine.

In another example, 9x3=27, and 3-1=2, 2+7=9, another quick trick is revealed by reverting to the previous number and then counting up to nine.
Learning the multiplication tables of ten is as simple as adding a zero to whatever is being multiplied: 10x2=20, 10x9=90, and 10x15=150.

Doubling up is all one needs to do when multiplying by the number eleven (for all whole numbers up to nine); such as, 2x11=22 and 5x11=55.

After the number nine, multiplying by eleven continues on with another multiplication trick for ten through eighteen. Take the sum of the multiplying number and write it between the number itself to reveal the answer, 11x17=1 (1+7) 7, 187.

Recall the multiplication table for ten to reveal a multiplication trick for the number twelve.Multiply the number by two, and then multiply it again separately by ten; add the two results together: 12x5=60 and (10x5) + (2x5) =60.

Recall of the multiplication tables is more accessible in real life and during examination time with multiplication tricks and tips that go beyond flash cards.
